“When are we arriviiive?” Now! This is it, you’re there, the children freed from their seats, thesmell of pine trees enveloping you…. You unload the luggage and slip the car keys into your pocket, never to take them out again for the rest of your stay in Mimizan. Because yes, a 100% cycling vacation is possible! First of all, get your bearings at Camping du Lac. Situated on the edge of the lake, in a Natura 2000 zone, you’ll instantly reconnect with nature. Whether in a fully-equipped lodge cabin or a tent, you’ll be delighted to spend a few days in the great outdoors. The kids are clamoring for a dip in the pool: it’s agreed, before taking time out for a refreshing drink at the bar and reserving your bikes, which are available for hire on the campsite itself. Sipping your juice, it’s time to plan the next few car-free days! The Cercle Nautique, located just a few minutes from the campsite, is up to the challenge. At All Water, we reserve a Giantpaddle for a different kind of challenge: managing to coordinate 8 people on the same board for a gliding session on the lake. You’ll have a great time, and if you don’t, you’ll end up wet! Nearby, the golf course offers more independence and zen: it’s up to you to take care of your wing and hope for the best trajectory. The site offers flat areas, a more undulating part in the dunes, and always pine trees to guide our gaze towards the horizon. At lunchtime, you still don’t need a car to get around: the best place to go is Au bon coin du lac. On the pretty wooden terrace, you can enjoy cuisine inspired by local, seasonal produce. In this soothing setting, we feel that we’re well on our way to continuing this 100% cycling vacation challenge, and we’re already looking ahead to what’s to come. For the next morning, we plan to cycle to the village in ten minutes or so: an opportunity to do a bit of shopping and grab a coffee at Lou zinc. Then it’s off to the page or, for the more intrepid, the accrobranche! Tip: in summer, free shuttles run between the lake and the ocean beaches. By bike, allow half an hour and 4km through the dunes, and you’re guaranteed a good shot of iodine on arrival.
