Vélostories or bike good trip Take up the challenge of a 100% cycling vacation on mimizan-tourisme.com

“When are we arriviiive?” Now! This is it, you’re there, the children freed from their seats, thesmell of pine trees enveloping you…. You unload the luggage and slip the car keys into your pocket, never to take them out again for the rest of your stay in Mimizan. Because yes, a 100% cycling vacation is possible! First of all, get your bearings at Camping du Lac. Situated on the edge of the lake, in a Natura 2000 zone, you’ll instantly reconnect with nature. Whether in a fully-equipped lodge cabin or a tent, you’ll be delighted to spend a few days in the great outdoors. The kids are clamoring for a dip in the pool: it’s agreed, before taking time out for a refreshing drink at the bar and reserving your bikes, which are available for hire on the campsite itself. Sipping your juice, it’s time to plan the next few car-free days! The Cercle Nautique, located just a few minutes from the campsite, is up to the challenge. At All Water, we reserve a Giantpaddle for a different kind of challenge: managing to coordinate 8 people on the same board for a gliding session on the lake. You’ll have a great time, and if you don’t, you’ll end up wet! Nearby, the golf course offers more independence and zen: it’s up to you to take care of your wing and hope for the best trajectory. The site offers flat areas, a more undulating part in the dunes, and always pine trees to guide our gaze towards the horizon. At lunchtime, you still don’t need a car to get around: the best place to go is Au bon coin du lac. On the pretty wooden terrace, you can enjoy cuisine inspired by local, seasonal produce. In this soothing setting, we feel that we’re well on our way to continuing this 100% cycling vacation challenge, and we’re already looking ahead to what’s to come. For the next morning, we plan to cycle to the village in ten minutes or so: an opportunity to do a bit of shopping and grab a coffee at Lou zinc. Then it’s off to the page or, for the more intrepid, the accrobranche! Tip: in summer, free shuttles run between the lake and the ocean beaches. By bike, allow half an hour and 4km through the dunes, and you’re guaranteed a good shot of iodine on arrival.

Contract concluded Organize your gourmet tours on mimizan-tourisme.com

11am, the time when you start to think about what’s for lunch… without getting stressed. In Mimizan-Plage, you can always count on the stalls of the halles to fill your basket. With its white façade and red frames, Mimizan’s covered market has recently been enlarged with the creation of the halles, home to a delightful team of traders who love good food and good times. In a friendly atmosphere where regulars and visitors mingle, you start by filling your basket with fresh fruit and vegetables from the colorful and tempting stall of the greengrocer… did you see those red strawberries? Then we opt for a roast chicken and its little juice: delicious, hearty and easy to prepare, it ticks all the boxes for a successful vacation lunch. As the basket fills up, the clock ticks and it’s time to meet up with friends for a drink: the market halls have filled up, a few notes of music liven things up and accompany a plate of oysters just bought from the producer. If you prefer charcuterie, take a seat at Tiapas, which serves tasty platters: all together, we munch and exchange our gourmet favorites in the heart of the halles. I’ve heard that the wine shop ‘s collection of bottles is always surprising, and that the cheeses in the covered market are delicious: we’re planning to stop there before leaving, as there’s still a little room in the basket! Agenda: there’s always a good reason to celebrate! Regular events are organized in the Halles, including New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, Beaujolais Nouveau and May 1st. Stay tuned!

Rock'n walk Listen to the stones tell their story on mimizan-tourisme.com

They say walls have ears… and what if stones could talk? Between moors and pines, discover the stories and legends that have been written for centuries between the stones of exceptional monuments. Whether it’s a mild spring morning or a beautiful autumn afternoon, all you have to do is lace up your shoes and set off along these paths steeped in history. Leaving the ocean behind, we reach the town of Mimizan, where the bell tower-porch has stood for over 800 years and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela. The last vestige of a former priory, the bell tower-porch is a real eye-catcher, thanks to its colorful palette! Mural paintings and polychrome sculpted figures adorn the top of the doorway and seem to stare down at us, leaving us free to admire, imagine or even make the figures speak. Then it’s on to Saint-Paul-en-Born, where the Saint Clair fountain is renowned for its healing properties, notably for eye diseases. After a meditative pause, we reach Pontenx les Forges, with its village built of garluche, the local stone. Along the way, we connect with the local art of living as we pass several superbly restored Landes houses near the lake. The show continues at theformer monastery of Bouricosas you reach the chapel. Slowly open the chapel door, then look up, attracted by the light, and remain transfixed by the beauty of the ceiling. Like a bridge between past centuries and the present day, we discover Aurore, a contemporary work of art that resembles a lace roof. Splendid, the ceiling alternates between full and empty, playing with the light that streams through it. Between these centuries-old stones, magic works. To visit: Adjacent to the bell tower, thepriory’s museum space completes the visit. The exhibition traces the history of the area through its natural evolution and human activities, from prehistory to the Middle Ages.

Very short circuit Test our good addresses of producers thanks to mimizan-tourisme.com

An island and pirates… they were made for each other. The restaurateurs at Chez Nous and the farmers at Champ des pirates are a match made in heaven, and the good stuff that goes from the earth to the plate is the talk of the town ! Our culinary adventure begins at the Champ des pirates organic farm, not far from Lake Mimizan. All year round, fruit and vegetables grow at their own pace, while a few Highland Cattle (very hairy with their “hair” in front of their eyes!) and Ouessant sheep graze quietly in the nearby pastures. As spring arrives, the increasingly colorful harvested crates make our mouths water. You can find them several times a week at the Mimizan market, but you can also taste the “ready-to-eat” products at the Chez Nous restaurant. Chez Nous is just like home: warm and inviting, with a wood-tinted decor. Tomatoes, salads, melons and everything else that inspires the chef have arrived safely from the field to the kitchen in no time at all. A slice of thinly sliced carrot, freshly roasted to sublimate a dressing, a spoonful of carefully cubed vegetables to accompany a fillet of sea bass or a bewitching dessert of seasonal fruit: it’s beautiful, and above all, it’s very good. Bon appétit. We want more! We love the idea of the children’s menu, which lets pitchouns eat like grown-ups, but with smaller portions. It’s the perfect way to cultivate their taste for good things and, why not, help them discover new flavors.
